Journey So Far

In 10 years, Project Heart Start Leaders and Volunteers have trained over 140,000 New Mexicans in our four part program through our annual Project Heart Start Day in the community, and training organization staff state wide. We are still dedicated to training everyone capable in New Mexico, to bring Sudden Cardiac Arrest survival rates from 10% to as high as 60% in places like Seattle. With more and more people learning hands-only CPR, how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator), like Seattle, we are on the right track by teaching as many capable individuals in the state as possible.

What sets our program apart is our emphasis on the importance of teaching signs and symptoms of a heart attack, and how to save a choking victim. Over 60,000 people die, from choking and not being able to breath, every year in the US. Their friends and family members could have been able to help, by knowing this easy to learn, simple simple to remember information.

With the support of the New Mexico Heart Institute Foundation, we are able to offer our training to Businesses, Schools, and Neighborhoods through training events on a donation basis. We encourage those who want to help advance our mission to support through any donation amount possible, or donate any available amount of time as a Volunteer after getting trained.

Project Heart Start Training Details

Don’t have a space for training? We can host at our office location in Albuquerque.

Either way, we can provide:

  • Training video
  • CPR mannequins to enhance confidence in doing hands-only CPR.
  • Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) trainers to show how easy this lifesaving device is to operate.
  • Choking vest to simulate how the Heimlich works when someone can’t breath.
  • Survey to reinforce the skills learned.
  • Our Program Completion certificate to show you are now a Heart-Starter! (Not a formal AHA 4 hour Certification)
  • Skills reminder card to keep in your wallet if you ever need a reminder when telling everyone how much fun you had all these skills learning!

To organize a large event, and/or to organize an ongoing CPR training program, contact our Project Coordinator so event leaders from your organization can learn how to easily present the program themselves.

Training supplies can be purchased for repeated use, or borrowed from one of our local partners as needed. Contact us so we can help you decide which option is best for your needs.
